Religion

In his 1991 book, "Hippies and American Values", Timothy Miller described the hippie ethos as essentially a "religious movement" whose goal was to transcend the limitations of mainstream religious institutions. "Like many dissenting religions, the hippies were enormously hostile to the religious institutions of the dominant culture, and they tried to find new and adequate ways to do the tasks the dominant religions failed to perform." In his seminal, contemporaneous work, "The Hippie Trip", author Lewis Yablonsky notes that those who were most respected in hippie settings were the spiritual leaders, the so-called "high priests" who emerged during that era.

I have a friend who has this kind of religion, so I have asked her some questions about it.

Me: What made you to choose this religion?

A: I have choosen this religion because I feel that there is not necessary just one single God. I believe that there is a special force that can be manipulated.

Eu: What does this religion worship more exactly?

AThis depends from person to person. Some of them worship a specific pantheon, or just the triple goddess and some see these just like a manipulation of the universes power.

Eu: Do you have a group with who you are practice some kind of rituals? Do you know more people who are in this religion?

A: I know some people like me but I practice alone all the rituals.

Eu: Were your parents supportive in this subject?

A: My parents don't know about this. This is my decision not theirs

Eu:oDo you consider this religion more helpfull than the others?

A: Humans need religion. They are built to think that there is s special force wich keep them safe. For me religion is a way to make me a better person and it makes me to feel more confident about myself and my powers.

Eu:  I see. Thank you very much.
